Probably the most notorious spammers these days are two brothers from Bulgaria, therefore nicknamed The Bulgarians.
They started spamming geeklog.net some time last year, mostly with poker spam, so I referred to them as "The Poker Spammer" for some time. Eventually, I came across Ann Elisabeth's observations which made it clear what we're dealing with.
For a long time, the most effective way to block these spammers was to filter for "pinappleproxy". However, it seems they have now figured out how to suppress that characteristic, so we now have to resort to other means.
Ann Elisabeth also keeps track of the latest domains used by the Bulgarians, which you can use to update your spam filters.
