February roundup

No, web spam hasn't magically stopped this month. It was just pretty boring these last few weeks and our current measures are keeping things at bay with hardly any manual interaction necessary.

Here's a few of this month's "highlights", though:

I haven't posted about my special Bulgarian friends in a while, mainly because I hardly see their spam any more. Not that they've stopped spamming us, but our filters kill each and every one of their posts (and usually even their attempts to post). The only thing worth mentioning is that they briefly experimented with using .to redirect services (like moving.to) but are now back to spamming for their own domains.

The Trackback spammers seem to run on automatic at the moment. While they are still hopping from one free service to another (kudos, btw, to funpic.de for quickly shutting down their accounts there) the actual target of those redirects has been shut down weeks ago. So all their spam is a complete waste of time and resources at the moment.

A new kid on the block is spamming compliments, e.g. Hello, a really interesting experience to visit your website. and similar attempts at flattery. All those posts include links to sites at narod.ru. They are therefore easily filtered out and I didn't even bother to look into who's behind all this. Pretty lame, but stubborn.
