For the last 2 or 3 days, someone has been sending out spam emails with faked email addresses @project.geeklog.net. Nothing new here, happens all the time, and if you own a domain, it'll happen to you eventually. On my own domains, I simply forward the catchall to a GMail account (hey, finally something to fill up those 6 GB!). On geeklog.net, however, we can't do that for various reasons. And so we're drowning in bounces now.
It's truly amazing. First of all, the variety of subjects and content of these bounces. I've added the most obvious ones to our filters, but there's always something new. Foreign languages of all sorts included.
And then there's the amount of information about certain companies and individuals that you really didn't need to know. Mr. X doesn't work here any more. My email address has changed! I am on maternity protection until ... Data protection? Privacy? Unheard of in a lot of companies, apparently.
And then there are the clever ones: Please confirm your email by clicking on this link ... Translation: I am too lazy / stupid to install a spam filter, so please do the work for me.
Oh well. Not much else to do than wait until the storm is over and muse about the stupidity that has ensued from spam.
